TET Services

As per the RTE Act laid down on 23rd August 2010, all aspiring teachers will have to qualify the Teacher Eligibility Test or TET for being appointed as teachers in government schools. The exam is a necessary step taken towards improving the standard of teaching in schools. Appearing for TET, it opens up lots of avenues for all the teachers in the state of Tamil Nadu. TET has become the benchmark to recognize a good teacher in the crowd, making employment easier and more assuring. After having cleared TET, one can get a teaching job in several reputed schools. Apart from job security, your tenure as a teacher will give a lot of weight to your career in the education field.

Understand your way to success as a teacher

To be able to sit for the TET exam the candidate must have cleared Higher Secondary examination in 10th and +2 pattern and eventually acquired a bachelor’s degree in arts, science or commerce. All secondary grade teachers are required to clear the Paper 1 of TET while those with a bachelor’s degree in education are favoured for the Paper 2 exam.

A person is considered eligible for further consideration if he or she scores a 55 % or above in the TET exam in either one of the two Papers; which translates to answering 90 questions correctly out of 150 in each Paper as there is no negative marking in the TET examination. The person’s declared credentials are then further verified; so one must be very careful and truthful while declaring his or her qualifications in the application form.

Subsequent Services after Clearing TET in Tamil Nadu

The main TET exam is divided into two Papers. All secondary grade teachers are required to sit for the first Paper and clear it with a minimum 55 %. All those who have at least one graduation certificate can appear for Paper 1. Clearing Paper 1 with 55% makes one eligible for certificate verification, upon completion of which one can either go back to teaching in the school of previous appointment or can seek new job opportunities in the same field.

Paper 2 mainly targets those who are willing to teach higher classes. Although the main subjects of the two Papers are more or less the same, the main difference lies in the level of difficulty of questions. People appearing for Paper 2 are expected to show more expertise in specific fields as specialization starts from Class X at an average. The certificate verification process in case of all those who clear TET Paper 2 is more rigorous. It is expected that all applicants will have at least a bachelor’s in humanities, science or commerce along with a bachelor’s degree in education. So if a candidate clears Paper 2 with a minimum of 55 % he or she is eligible to teach in any school of their choice in the state of Tamil Nadu.

A person may even choose to appear for both the TET Papers if he or she wants to teach Classes I to X. But to accomplish that they must clear both Papers as well and meet all the eligibility criteria for qualifying TET Paper 1 as well as Paper 2.
